1034 hours. Smithtown Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a gas leak on Mt. Pleasant Road near Townline Road. Firefighters arrive to find gas leaking from a manhole in the street. FD personnel closed Mt. Pleasant from Townline to Sherry Lane and continuously monitored atmospheric conditions in the area until National Grid arrived to handle. Engines 1, 4 and 5 along with ladder 7 and heavy rescue 9 operated.
