Traffic Collision-heavy rescue on the Long Island expressway in Hauppauge

Hauppauge Fire Department responds with Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance to a report of a traffic collision on the Long Island Expressway. Units find a multi vehicle crash with one vehicle on its side in the west bound HOV lanes between 57 and 56. FD personnel along with SCPD ESU remove the roof and windshield in order to free the driver. Patients were transported by CIHVAC to the hospital. While operating at this scene, units were made aware of a second crash in the same area, a result of rubbernecking. Rush hour traffic was backed up for some time while the road was cleared and cleaned. 2nd Assistant Chief Martinez was the incident commander.
