Suburban Fire Marshal

1214 hours. Nesconset Fire Department responds to Middle Country Road near Route 347 for a traffic collision. Units arrive to find a crash involving XXXX with an SUV resting on its side. All of the occupants exited the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. All of the injuries were minor. Patients were transported via Nesconset Fire Department ambulance.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred in Lake Grove today.

A 911 caller told police that while conducting a wellness check a man had been found dead at 184 Hallock Road, APT J1, on Sunday afternoon. Fourth Precinct officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:20 p.m. and found Varujan Manougian dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His wife, Barbara Manougian, was found in her vehicle that was parked directly outside of the apartment building a short time later with a gunshot wound.

1423 hours. Stony Brook Fire Department responds to a report of a house fire at 12 Sand Street. Units arrive to find an active fire within a two story private dwelling. Mutual aid requested from Centereach for a RIT, Setauket for an engine and St. James for a ladder. Crews stretched in and all fire was extinguished by 1510 hours. A major rain and wind storm rolled through the area during this fire, resulting in a water rescue at Sand Street Beach. The Setauket Fire Department sent their boat to handle. 

1445 hours. Hauppauge, Smithtown and Kings Park were hit especially hard, but Commack took the brunt of the storm, with trees down on most streets on both sides of New Highway.

Smithtown Fire Department responds to a report of a traffic collision with overturn in front of the bull (25 and 25A). Units arrive to find one vehicle overturned but no one trapped. EMS personnel transported two subjects to the hospital with minor injuries.

1133 hours. Centereach FIre Department responds to a traffic collision at Middle Country Road at New Moriches Road. Units arrive to find a crash involving two vehicles. Suffolk Police ESU officers "popped" the door on one vehicle to allow EMS personnel to remove the patient. The victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance. 

The Ronkonkoma, Farmingville, Lakeland and Nesconset Fire Departments are dispatched to a report of a shed fire to the rear of 86 Newton Blvd in the Ronkonkoma Fire District. Ronkonkoma FD was first in, confirmed an involved shed and extinguished same with a high pressure line. All mutuals were cancelled. There were no injuries and the scene was turned over to the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals Office.

1932 hours. Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that injured two people, one seriously, in Kings Park.
 
William Seitz was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on St. Johnland Road near Squire Lane when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2016 Chrysler driven by Carissa Clancy at approximately 7:30 p.m. 
 
Seitz, 54, of Northport, extricated by firefighters from the Kings Park and Smithtown Fire Departments and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Clancy, 26, of Kings Park, was extricated by firefighters and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via Kings Park Fire Department ambulance under police escort with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

With afternoon temps near 90 degrees under a cloudless sky, The Commack and Smithtown school districts held their graduation ceremonies today. Commack 9 people, St. James 3, Smithtown 1. 

2028 hours. Commack Fire Department responds to a traffic collision at the intersection of Commack Road and Wicks Road. Units arrive to find a crash involving two vehicles. Commack Ambulance handled patient care and transport, FD personnel secured the vehicles. 

0035 hours. Hauppauge Fire Department and CI-Hauppauge Ambulance respond to a vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway. 

 
Suffolk County Police report that Hugo A. Chavez was driving a 2007 Honda sedan westbound on the Long Island Expressway when he lost control of the vehicle between exits 55 and 56 at approximately 12:35 a.m. The Honda rolled over repeatedly, ejecting Chavez into right lane of the roadway, then crashed into the woods. Two bystanders pulled Chavez off the roadway. Melqui Misael Chevez Rivas, the front passenger in the Honda, remained in the vehicle until it came to rest.
 
Chavez, 30, of Huntington Station, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Chevez Rivas, 22, of Huntington Station, was transported by Hauppauge Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

This one is pretty obvious. The photo was taken up in MA and shows a vehicle illegally parked in front of a fire hydrant. The fire department needed to use the hydrant during a structure fire so members physically moved the car over and then smashed the windows to run the hose through. Hopefully a summons or two was issued to the irresponsible driver. 

0035 hours. Central Islip Fire Department responds to multiple reports of a house fire in the vicinity of Violet Street and Carnation Avenue. Units arrive to find heavy fire throughout a private dwelling. Due to the extent of the fire and a partial collapse, units took up a defensive position, protecting the exposures. Mutual aid was requested from the Hauppauge FIre Department for a RIT, Islip Terrace for an engine to the scene and East Islip to cover. The master stream on CI's tower ladder was placed into operation and the fire was brought under control 

1323 Commack Volunteer Ambulance and Commack Fire Department respond to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle In front of Ulta Cosmetics 78 Veterans Highway. The victim was transported with minor injuries.

1900 hours. Brentwood Legion Ambulance is dispatched to a report of a traffic collision with injuries in front of 179 Floyd Street off Washington Avenue . Units arrived to fire a multi-vehicle crash with heavy entrapment and numerous victims, at least one of whom was critical. The Brentwood Fire Department was requested to the scene as well as additional ambulances from the East Brentwood Fire Department and Commack Ambulance. 

1547 Selden Fire Department responds to a report of a shed on fire at 12 Whitmore Lane. Units arrive to find a fully involved out building with fire extending to a private dwelling. Mutual aid was requested from numerous departments including Setauket for RIT and Centereach to cover. Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals are investigating.

1501 hours. An elderly female driver lost control of the vehicle she was operating while attempting to pull into a handicap spot in the Lowes Movie theater parking lot. After hitting one unoccupied vehicle head on, she backed up hitting three other unoccupied vehicle. The then pulled forward and struck an additional unoccupied vehicle, a station and a small tree. The driver was transported to the hospital via Centereach Fire Department Ambulance. There were no other injuries.
