0348 hours. Nesconset, St. James, Ronkonkoma and Lakeland Fire Departments are dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 18 Meryl Lane off Florence Street in the Nesconset Fire District. Units arrive and find a large wood shed burning in the rear yard. The fire is extinguished and crews clear from the scene by 0515 hours. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety were on scene investigating. There were no injuries, although a number of pigeons died in the fire.

0309 hours. The Selden Fire Department responded to a fire at 685 Hawkins Road. The fire appears to have started outside of the garage and extended into the space above the garage. The fire was placed under control within 30 minutes and crews remained on scene for over an hour. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven are handling the investigation. Mutual aid provided by Terryville, Centereach and Farmingville FD.
House fire on Cabin Lane in Setauket

1754 Hours. The Setauket Fire Department was toned out for a reported house on fire at 1 Cabin Lane off Longhorn Lane. Units arrived to find a well involved dwelling. Crews attacked the fire from the exterior while a water supply was established. Fire was knocked down by 1810 hours and placed under control shortly thereafter. Crews rescued two dogs from the fire. Terryville sent an engine to the scene and another to cover. Selden to cover, Centereach to the scene, Port Jefferson ladder to the scene. Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals are investigating.
Commercial building fire in Commack

1701 hours. The Commack Fire Department is dispatched to 2171 Jericho Turnpike for smoke in the building. Units arrived to find smoke pushing from a three story office building. FD personnel stretched lines through the main entrance while others searched and assisted in the evacuation of the occupants. Mutual aid was requested from the East Northport FD for a ladder, Kings Park FD for a ladder and an engine, The fire was located in an enclosed wall space on the front of the building and quickly extinguished. The fire area was overhauled and the building vented. Crews remained on scene for just under two hours. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are investigating. Commack Ambulance was on scene along with Greenlawn and Dix Hills EMS (Cyanide Response). There were no injuries.
At about the same time, the Brentwood Fire Department went out on a house fire on Park Avenue. That was a working fire and Commack was requested for a RIT. Commack was unable to respond due to this fire.

1310 hours. Commack FD responds to a report of a house on fire at 105 New Highway. The report through 911 was that a neighbor sees the front and side of the house on fire. Units arrived to find that neighbors had knocked the fire down with garden hoses. FD personnel completed extinguishment and overhauled the area. The fire was confined to the exterior of the house and involved vegetation and PVC siding on the front of the house. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are investigating.

0959 hours. Ronkonkoma FD responds to 116 Patchogue Holbrook Road for a reported house on fire. Crews arrive to find an active fire in he basement of a dwelling. One line was stretched and operated. Mutual aid was provided by Farmingville FD for a ladder, Holtsville FD for a ladder, Holbrook for an engine, Nesconset FD for an engine, Lakeland FD for an engine. Centereach FD sent an ambulance to cover. Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals are handling the investigation.
Single vehicle crash with overturn on Fifty Acre Road in St. James

1757 hours. The St. James Fire Department and the Head of the Harbor Police Department respond to Edgewood Avenue and Fifty Acre Road in regards to a reported traffic collision. Units arrive to find an SUV on its side in the middle Fifty Acre Road. The lone occupant had self-extricated. FD personnel transported the subject to the hospital and secured the vehicle. The scene was turned over to the police department.
HVAC units burns up at Millers Ale House in Lake Grove

0557 hours. Centereach Fire Department responds Millers Ale House at 4000 Middle Country Road in regards to an automatic alarm. Units arrive to find the fire alarm system active and smoke in the building. Crews quickly identified the problem within an HVAC unit on the roof. Power and gas to the unit was shut off and the building was ventilated to clear the smoke. The Lake Grove Fire Marshal performed a full inspection of the restaurant and gave them a clean bill of health. The restaurant opened at their normal time.
House burns on North Washington Avenue in Centereach

0534 hours. Centereach Fire Department responds to a report of a brush fire in the vicinity of North Washington Avenue and Oxhead Road. Units arrive and after a brief search of the area, find a house burning at 199 North Washington Avenue. The alarm is re-toned as a structure fire and mutual aid is requested from Ronkonkoma, Holtsville, Farmingville, Selden, Setauket and Stony Brook to the scene. Holbrook FD sent an ambulance to cover and Terryville sent an engine to cover. The fire was placed under control within 35 minutes. All units released at 0820 hours. The house was a total loss. Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals and Suffolk Police Arson Detectives are investigating. There were no injuries.
Traffic collision requires door pop in Ronkonkoma

Ronkonkoma Fire Department responds to a traffic collision at the intersection of Hawkins Avenue and Portion Road. Units arrive to find a t-crash involving two vehicles. FD personnel removed the drivers door on one vehicle to allow EMS personnel to treat and remove the occupant. None of the injuries were life threatening. All of the injured were transported to the hospital via ambulance.

This morning just after 11:30 ENFD firefighters responded to a large brush fire on privately owned property between Deposit Rd and 5th Avenue, adjacent to the Town of Huntington landfill.
Upon arrival of Chiefs Dan Flanagan and Tom Bourne the location of the fire was confirmed and access locations and a command post were established. A full response from ENFD as well as Mutual aids for brush trucks and additional resources were immediately requested due to the size of the fire, the anticipated quick spread due to the strong wind conditions, proximity to nearby structures and the hazard of the nearby Iroquois pipeline which is a large underground natural gas line that runs from Canada to New York along the trail.
Firefighters operated on scene for just under three hours. Approximately three acres of brush were burned in total.
The gas pipeline was not affected nor were any of the near by structures. There were no injuries.
Approximately 75 emergency personnel from numerous agencies operated at the scene with 7 brush trucks, 4 engines, 3 ambulances, 1 paramedic, as well as fire police and a rehab/support unit.
Mutual aid was provided by Northport, Commack, Greenlawn, Kings Park, Dix Hills Fire Department’s and the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Commercial building fire in Hauppauge

The Hauppauge Fire Department was dispatched to 60 Davids Drive on a telephone alarm reporting a building fire. Units arrived and advised of nothing showing from the exterior of Castella Imports. Employees advised of an active fire inside the building. Crews entered and noted a moderate smoke condition throughout the ground level warehouse area of the 95,000 square foot building. FD personnel determined that the fire had been extinguished by employees using portable fire extinguishers and the burned debris had been removed from the building. FD personnel confirmed that there was no extension and vented the building. A number of employees were evaluated at the scene by EMS but were not transported. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown and from the Hauppauge Fire District are handling the investigation.

Small fire at Applebees in Lake Grove

0347 hours. The Nesconset Fire Department responds to an activated fire alarm at the Applebees 3145 Middle Country Road in the Centereach Fire District. Units arrive to find smoke pushing from the building. Crews forced entry and after a search of the building, found a clothes dryer burning in a utility room off the kitchen. Members extinguished the fire, the dryer was disconnected and removed from the building and fans were brought in to clear the smoke. FD units remained on scene for just under two hours. There was no structural damage. The Lake Grove Fire Marshal was on scene and handled the investigation. The restaurant was open for business just after lunch. There were no injuries.

1320 hours. East Northport Fire Department is dispatched to 376 Larkfield Road in regards to a reported structure fire. Units arrive to find heavy fire on the upper level and in the cockloft. While crews stretched in and evacuated the occupants, mutual aid was requested from Dix Hills, CVAC, Commack FD, Kings Park FD, Centerport Fire Department and the Greenlawn Fire Deparrtment. The fire was knocked down at 1356 hours and the fire was placed under control Huntington Manor FD sent units to cover and the Red Cross was requested due to numerous displaced occupants. Suffolk Arson Squad Detectives are investigating.

Centereach Fire Department responds to a report of a traffic collision on XXX. Units arrive to find that a driver lost control of their vehicle, left the roadway and hit the side of a private dwelling. FD personnel secured the vehicle and insured that none of the There were no injuries.
George Hauk, last surviving charter member of Commack Ambulance passes

53-year member and current Support Member George Francis Hauk Jr. passed into life eternal on March 22, 2019 at the age of 84 . George was the final remaining charter member of Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Mr. Hauk was reposed at Commack Abbey with services held at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church in East Northport. He was interred at Calverton National Cemetery.

House Fire on Cardinal Lane in Hauppauge

0639 hours. Hauppauge Firefighters were called to 19 Cardinal Lane in regards to a report of smoke in a house. Units arrive to find that all occupants had fled the house due to heavy smoke from an unknown source. Hose lines were stretched while crews searched the house. The fire was found within the basement and was extinguished. Commack Fire Department sent a RIT, Smithtown FIre Department sent an engine, Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance sent a bus and medics and the Central Islip Fire Department sent an engine to cover. The fire was placed under control in just over an hour. Units remained on scene until after 0800 and returned approximately an 90 minutes later to deal with hot spots. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Hauppauge Fire District Fire Marshal, Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety and Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad. The fire is not considered suspicious at this time. There were no injuries.

0053 hours. Lakeland Fire Department responds to the Colony Park Apartments at 500 Peconic Street in regards to a structure fire. Units arrive to find heavy fire throughout building 29. Prior to their arrival, an adult female who was trapped in here upper level apartment above the fire dropped her one year old child to an adult male on the ground and then jumped from the balcony. The woman and child were both transported via ambulance to Stony Brook hospital. An adult male was also transported to the hospital. Multiple hose lines and master streams were put into operation to fight the fire, which had completely consumed all of the apartment within the building. Mutual aid was provided by Hauppauge (ending to the scene), St. James FD (ladder to the scene), Bohemia FD, Nesconset FD (engine to the scene), Central Islip FD, Holbrook FD, East Brentwood FD (ambulance to cover). The fire was placed under control approximately two hours into the incident and units remained on scene until after 5AM.

1337 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department responds to a report of a house fire at 16 Oak Hill Lane off Sunken Meadow Road. Crews arrive to find an active fire in a two and one half story wood frame private dwelling.Firefighters stretched in and make a a quick attack on the fire. Mutual aid was requested from East Northport, Northport, Smithtown and the Commack Fire Departments. The fire was quickly knocked down and placed under control within 20 minutes of being activated. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are handling the investigation.
There were no injuries.
