St. James Fire Department and Smithown Bay Constables assist Stony Brook Fire Department with search for swimmer

1620 hours. Bay Constables from the Town of Smithtown respond along with Suffolk Police and the Stony Brook Fire Department in regards to a 911 call reporting a swimmer in distress in the area of the Stony Brook Yacht Club. Units arrived and requested additional boats from St. James and Setauket  Fire Departments to try and search the area. Suffolk Police aviation was also involved. After further investigation, it was determined that the swimmer that the caller saw was never in distress and had gone home. NYS DEC police and Stony Brook Ambulance were also on the scene. All units cleared from the scene by 1800.

Truck fire in Ronkonkoma

0708 hours. The Ronkonkoma Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire in front of 20 Lake Terrace Road. Units arrive to find a fire in the trash compartment of a garbage truck. The truck was being used to pickup bags of leaves and the leaves were burning.  The truck was dumped and firefighters extinguished the fire.  A payload and dump truck were called in to pickup the debris and to clear the roadway.

Commack sends RIT to Dix Hills house fire

18:20 hours. Dix Hills Fire Department responds to a report of a house on fire at 328 Vanderbilt Parkway. Units arrive and find a small fire within the structure. The mutual aid plan is initiated bringing in units from other departments, including a RIT from Commack. The fire was quickly extinguished without incident.

Truck vs Bldg in Nesconset

The Nesconset Fire Department is dispatched to 610 Middle Country Road in regards traffic collision. Units arrive to find that a tow truck struck a wall at the Goodyear Store. There were no injuries and damage was minor. A Fire Marshal and a Building Inspector were called to the scene.

Pedestrian hit by vehicle in Kings Park

0509 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department responds to a vehicle pedestrian on Route 25a near Ashland Drive. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.

Nissequogue FD responds with tanker to fatal house fire in Bayville, 35 miles away

2358 hours. The Bayville Fire Department (in Nassau County) responds to a working house fire at 300 Centre Island Road in Centre Island. With heavy fire showing in much of the large two story private dwelling, mutual aid was requested from numerous Nassau County Fire Departments including but not limited to Oyster Bay, Locust Valley as well as for the 4400 gallon tanker from the Nissequogue Fire Department. 4-5-4 responds to the scene and operates for approximately 2 ½ hours.  Firefighters from numerous departments operated for hours. Bayville even pressed their fire boat into service to help battle this wind driven blaze. Firefighters recovered the body of an adult male from within the building. Nissequogue was released and back in quarters by 0400 hours.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by Fire Marshals from Nassau County.

Fatal single car crash on the Northern State Parkway in Commack

1022 hours. The Commack Fire Department was dispatched with CVAC, SCPD and the NYS Police to a traffic collision on the Northern State Parkway. Units arrived to find the a single vehicle had left the roadway, stoking a number of signs and a pole, overturned, landing upside down between the guardrail and the inside wall of the New Highway overpass. The lone occupant was ejected and was pronounced dead a the hospital. The westbound Northern State Parkway was closed for a few hours for the State Police investigation.

House fire in Smithtown

1224 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 5 Patricia Court. Units arrived and quickly extinguished a small fire in one room. Kings Park Fire Department sent a RIT to the scene and St. James sent an engine to cover. The case of the fire is being investigated by Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety. There were no injuries.

Hazardous Materials Incident in Hauppauge

1945 hours. The Hauppauge FIre Department responds to Old Willets Path and Oser Avenue for a reported fuel spill. While en-route, units are advised that this is reported as an unknown substance on the roadway. Crews arrive to find the road surface coated in an unknown blue liquid. Roads in the immediate area are shutdown to prevent exposure and further expansion of the affected area. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety respond along with the Islip Town Haz-Mat team. An investigation determines that the substance is a a non-toxic chemical mixture used to coat vitamin supplements. Two drums of the substance fell off a truck and onto the roadway during a local delivery. Under the direction of the NYS DEC, the road surfaces were flushed and then sanded. All roads were reopened at approximately 2215 hours. There were no injuries.

1840 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department is dispatched to a traffic collision at Old Route 25A and Fort Salonga Road. Units arrived to find a crash involving two vehicles. FD personnel extricated the occupants and EMS transported. There were no serious injuries.

Serious crash in Centereach

0918 hours, Centereach Fire Department and Suffolk Police respond to a traffic collision at Wood Road and Middle Country Road. Crews arrived to find a crash involving two passenger vehicles, both of which left the roadway.  FD personnel cut the victims out and EMS packaged then transported to the hospital. The road remained closed for approximately four hours due to the police investigation.

Three ejected in crash in Long Island Expressway

0249 hours. Ronkonkoma Fire Department is dispatched to a. report of a traffic collision on the Long Island Expressway. Units arrived to find a single overturned vehicle in the eastbound lanes, east of Exit 61. There were five subjects injured three of whom had been ejected. Suffolk Police were already on scene and had requested a medivac. Ronkonkoma responded with their ambulances and requested an ambulance from Holtsville. A Manorville Ambulance crew returning from Stony Brook also stopped at the scene. The helicopter landed on the expressway, east of the scene but was not used. 

All five subjects were transported and thankfully, none with serious injuries. The road was reopened approximately an hour later.

Kings Park truck goes to Northport house fire.

On Monday November 12th at 12:11 AM the Northport Fire Department received a call for a reported house fire at 14 Clipper Drive, Northport. Arriving units encountered flames coming from a second floor window. All occupants self evacuated from the residence. Under the command of Chief John Jacobsen approximately 65 firefighters from Northport, East Northport, Centerport and Kings Park Fire Departments, made quick work of knocking down the blaze. The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad. There were no reported injuries. (Via Northport Fire Department Facebook Page)

Holiday toy safety tips

Fatal crash on the LIE in Ronkonkoma

 1215 hours. Suffolk Police and the Ronkonkoma and Lakeland Fire Departments were dispatched to a traffic collision on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway. Units arrived to find a crash involving a box truck and a passenger vehicle. The truck had left the roadway, striking the Ocean Avenue overpass. The lone occupant of the truck was deceased in the vehicle. Crews stabilized the vehicles and requested the Town of Islip Haz-Mat team as well as NYS Encon Police and NYS Encon Spill Response, due to a large fuel spill from the truck. The operator of the other vehicle was uninjured.  The westbound side of the expressway was closed for almost 8 hours for the investigation and while haz-mat worked to contain and mitigate the fuel spill.

John Palmer was operating a 2014 Freightliner Truck westbound when it collided with a 2006 Kia Sportage being operated by Brendan Appold. Palmer’s truck then veered off the road and stuck the overpass at approximately 12:15 p.m.  Palmer, 28, of Maybrook, New York was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Overturn on Larkfield Road in Commack

While taking up from the fatal crash in Kings Park, Commack FD was dispatched with Commack Ambulance to a report of a crash with overturn in front of 672 Larkfield Road. Commack Ambulance and SCPD were first to arrive, finding a passenger vehicle on its side with two subjects trapped within. Commack units continued in and Chief of Department XXXX requested mutual aid from the East Northport Fire Department for their heavy rescue.

Fatal crash in Kings Park

1047 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department was dispatched to a traffic collision on Pulaski Road near Meadow Glen Road. Units arrived to find a two vehicle crash with the occupant of one vehicle deceased. The driver of the second vehicle was evaluated but denied being injured. FD personnel secured the vehicles and the scene was turned over to Suffolk Police. The road was closed for approximately 4 hours. 

As per SCPD press release: 

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a man in Fort Salonga on November 6. 

 A 2018 Dodge Ram, traveling westbound on Pulaski Road, collided at the intersection of Meadow Glen Road with a 1998 Acura CL heading southbound at 10:47 a.m. Lawrence Margott, 91, the driver of the Acura, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.  The driver of the Dodge was not injured.  Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

House fire in Setauket

The Setauket Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 25 Branch Lane off Mayflower Lane. Units arrived to find heavy fire in the back half of a private dwelling. Crews stretched in while mutual aid was requested from Terryville, Stony Brook, Port Jefferson and Centereach Fire Departments.
