1410 hours. Centereach FD is dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Prime Storage on Hammond Road. Units arrive to find an active fire in the office area of a single story facility. Crews from Centereach, Selden, Ronkonkoma and Farmingville made quick work of the fire. There were no injuries and the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals are handling the investigation.

1536 hours. Centereach FD is dispatched to a report of a shed on fire at 11 Dixie Lane off Rego Avenue. Units arrive to find a fully involved 10X10 shed burning in the yard with no exposure problems. The fire is quickly extinguished by crews using an inch and three quarter line. Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals are handling the investigation.
Commercial building fire in Centereach

1010 hours. Centereach FD is dispatched to a report of a fire in a commercial structure at 2350 Middle Country Road. Units arrive to find an active fire within a pet store in a strip mall. Mutual aid was immediately requested from Selden for two engines, Stony Brook for an engine, Nesconset for a RIT, Ronkonkoma FD to the scene and Coram FD to the scene with a ladder. Farmingville sent an engine to cover. Lines were stretched while crews removed dozens of animals from within the store. A number of animals perished in the fire but many were saved by responders.The fire was placed under control in just over an hour. The Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals Office is handling the investigation.
Haz-Mat incident at the SUNY Chemistry Building

2050 hours. Setauket Fire Department is dispatched to assist SUNY Fire Marshals at a reported nitric acid spill in a classroom of the Chemistry Building. The spill was mitigated by the Hazmat unit of the SUNY Fire Marshals Office. Stony Brook FD also sent an engine to the scene.
Vehicle fire on the LIE in Ronkonkoma

The Ronkonkoma Fire Department responds to a vehicle fire on the LIE near exit 61. Units arrived to find an involved auto in the center westbound lane just west of exit 62. The westbound side of the expressway was shut down by SCPD and the fire was quickly extinguished.

1453 hours. Selden and Centereach Fire Departments are dispatched to a report of a house fire at 12 Oakmont Avenue in Selden. Units arrive to find a neighbor holding a bathroom fire in check with a garden hose. A line is quickly stretched and the fire is extinguished without incident.
Chris Raguso laid to rest

Roughly 25 thousand people came out to say goodbye to Commack Honorary Chief and FDNY Lieutenant Chris Raguso today. After two days of wake services at Commack Fire Department Headquarters, Chris was moved to St. Josephs Church in Kings Park this morning passing under 15 flag arches lining Indian Head Road. Numerous firefighters including FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro spoke as did friends and family. After the funeral, Raguso was interred at Calverton National Cemetery. additional photos and video will be added.
Man killed in Hauppauge industrial incident

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives, Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety and OSHA are investigating an incident during which an employee was killed in an industrial accident in Hauppauge today.Sergio Escobar was cutting a metal drum with a grinder at Bactolac Pharmaceutical, located at 620 Old Willets Path, when the drum exploded and struck Escobar at approximately 11:45 a.m.Escobar, 59, of 11 Madison Ave., Brentwood, was transported by Central Islip Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

Kings Park heads to East Northport fire

1330 hours. East Northport is activated for a report of brush burning near a house at 32 Meadow Rue Lane. Units arrive to find a dumpster and vehicle burning in a driveway and heavy fire on the upper level of a two story private dwelling. Crews stretch on the fire while mutual aid is requested from Dix Hills, Kings Park, Greenlawn and Northport FD's. Crews made an aggressive push on the fire but were pulled out when it was determined that there was an active gas leak in the building. The house sustained extensive damage. Suffolk County PD Arson Squad is handling the investigation.
Nissequogue Firefighter saves man on LIRR Train

Nissequogue FD EMT Kevin Bartsch is a conductor for the MTA. While his Coney Island bound F train was in the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue Station, passengers alerted him to an adult male that was slumped over and unconscious.
Bartsch accessed the subject and found that he was in cardiac arrest. Bartsch alerted his dispatcher via radio and began CPR. He was joined shortly thereafter by a FDNY EMT. Together they were successful in restoring the victims pulse and respiration's. The victim was transported to the hospital by FDNY ambulance. Kudos to EMT Bartsch for a job well done.

Historic Smithtown mansion destroyed by fire.

1957 hours.The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 227 Edgewood Avenue off Teapot Lane.
Units arrived to find heavy fire rolling out of a two and a half story 13,000 square foot mansion. The fire was re-toned as work and
Smithtown FD units picked up hydrants and went right into a defensive exterior attak using a deck gun, large lines and a tower ladder.
On scene were Smithtown Chief of Department Michael Landrigan operated at the scene with Assistant Chiefs Fitzpatrick, Diecidue, Duckham, Engines 4-2-2, 4-2-3, 4-2-4, 4-2-5 and 4-2-15, Ladder 4-2-7, Rescue 4-2-9, Fire Police 4-2-10, Ambulances 4-2-61, 4-2-62, 4-2-63, 4-2-64.Mutual aid was provided by the St. James Fire Department, Nesconset Fire Department, Kings Park Fire Department, Hauppauge Fire Department, Nissequogue Fire Department, Commack Volunteer Ambulance and CI/Hauppauge Ambulance.
Due to the collapse of most of the building, the Town of Smithtown Highway Department was called in to demolish the building and to spread out the burning debris so that the fire department could completely extinguish the fire.
The fire was placed under control at 2221 hours and units cleared the scene at around midnight. The FD was called back to the scene twice overnight to deal with hotspots. There were no injuries.
This building was a roughly 173-year-old mansion known as "Ebo Hill". The dilipidated building sat vacant 17 years until recently, when it was purchased by a private citizen who stated that his intent was to restore it and then move his family in.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Smithtown Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.
Fatal collision in Hauppauge

0555 hrs Motor vehicle accident in front of 2100 Joshua's Path. Head on Collision. Driver of the Service Truck sustained a leg injury. The driver of the passenger vehicle was heavily trapped and was pronounced deceased by a Paramedic from CI-Hauppauge Ambulance. Driver of the service vehicle was transported to Southside Hospital by CI-Hauppauge Ambulance. !st Asst Chief Stephen Feron and 2nd Asst. Chief Ronald Walker were on scene. Engine 3-8-1, Heavy Rescue 3-8-9 were returned en-route as their services would not be needed.
Sprinklers extinguish fire in Hauppauge manufacturing plant

2125 Hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department is dispatched to 70 Commerce Drive in regards to a waterflow alarm. Units arrive to find the sprinkler system operating. Crews enter the building and encounter a smoke condition. After a search, fire damaged equipment is found within an IT/Server room, having been extinguished by the sprinkler system. Crews ventilated, shut down the sprinklers and overhauled the area. Fire damage was confined to the piece of equipment in the server room. Yet again, sprinklers minimize damage.
Smithtown Fire Marshals are working with the Hauppauge Fire District Fire Marshal to determine the cause of the fire.

0114 hours. Centereach FD is dispatched to a reported house fire at 24 Arbor Lane. Assistant Chief Feola was first in and had the alarm re-transmitted as a working fire as he had fire showing out of a second story bedroom of a private dwelling. Engine 12 was first in followed by ladder 5 and engine 2. Crews stretched on the fire and it was quickly extinguished. Selden FD sent a RIT. The fire was placed under control within 45 minutes. Chief of Department Robert Corley was the incident commander. All of the occupants escaped without injury and firefighters removed one cat.

1505 hours. Central Islip FD is dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire at 9 Okane Street off McKinney Street. Units arrived to find heavy fire rolling out of the upper level of a two story dwelling. Crews stretched in while mutual aid was requested from the Islip Terrace Fire Department for a RIT and the East Islip FD to cover. The occupants evacuated safely. Basement Fire in Setauket

At approximately 2023 hours, the Setauket Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 6 Shadetree Court in Stony Brook. Units arrived to find an active fire in a boiler room in the basement of a private dwelling. With the help of the Stony Brook FD, the Port Jefferson FD and the Terryville FD, the fire was quickly extinguished and confined to the basement. There were no injuries and the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals Office is handling the investigation.
