1937 hours. The Ronkonkoma Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an outside fire at 37 Center Street. Units arrived to find an active fire on the upper level of a two story private dwelling. The fire was re-toned, bringing Lakeland, Farmingville and Nesconset FD units to the scene. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. There were no injuries, and all units cleared from the scene within 90 minutes. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven are handling the investigation.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist in St. James, New York on Monday, March 5, 2018.
 
Steven A. Perrone was operating a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Route 25A, just west of Acorn Road, when the motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into a guardrail at approximately 11:30 p.m. 
 
Perrone, 34, of East Setauket, New York was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is in critical condition.
 
The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.

0218 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a train vs vehicle near the railroad station. Units search the area, finding that a train had struck a jeep approximately one half mile west of Townline Road in the East Northport Fire District. The lone occupant of the vehicle was deceased so the FD was released from the scene by PD.

Occupants call 911 at 2230 hours reporting smoke and fire on the 2nd floor. Nesconset FD arrives and confirms an active fire on the upper level of a two story converted bungalow. 3 lines are stretched and two operate. The fire is quickly extinguished. There are no injureis and damage is confined to the upper level. Mutual aid from St. James (engine), Ronkonkoma (engine), Centereach (RIT) and Lakeland (ladder).
This fire occurs during a Nor'easter. James Keane is Chief of Department and is the OIC.

2106 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire on the Sunken Meadow Parkway. Units arrived to find an active fire in the engine compartment of a sedan parked on the shoulder at Exit SM4W.  The fire was quickly extinguished without incident and there were no injuries.

1215 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a traffic collision on Route 347 at Route 111.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a woman in Hauppauge today.
 Patrick Chestnut was driving a 2014 Mazda eastbound on Nesconset Highway when he attempted to make a turn at Route 111 and his vehicle crashed head-on with a 2017 Honda traveling westbound on Nesconset Highway at approximately 12:15 p.m. The driver of the Honda, Robert Sheehan, 73, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.  His wife, Lorraine Sheehan, 70, was transported to St. Catherine’s of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where she was pronounced dead. Chestnut, 32, of Fairfield, Ohio, and his passenger Karma Spear, 31, of Bay Shore, were both transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

0620 hours. The Ronkonkoma Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a vehicle on fire on the Long Island Expressway. Units arrived to find an involved auto on the eastbound shoulder between exits 59 and 60. The fire was extinguished without incident and there were no injuries.

The Kings Park Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a building fire at 141 Main Street. Units arrive to find the building filling with smoke. Assistant Chief Clark has the alarm re-transmitted, orders a line into the building and had the 2nd due engine pick up a hydrant. The fire was quickly located in a dryer and the duct work for same. The hand line was charged and the fire was quickly extinguished. Fans were setup to vent the building while crews overhauled.  The FD operated at the scene for approximately 40 minutes. A Fire Marshal from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety was called to the scene to handle the investigation.

At approximately 0400 hours, the Terryville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house on fire at 5 Clematis Street in Port Jefferson Station. Arriving units encountered heavy fire venting from an occupied single story private dwelling.  A quick check confirmed that all of the occupants were accounted for and crews pushed in on the fire. Mutual aid was requested from Mt. Sinai, Port Jefferson, Setauket and Selden FD at the scene and the Coram Fire Department sent an engine to cover Terryville for the duration.Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven are handling the origin and cause investigation.

There were no injuries.

1115 hours. The Stony Brook Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a house fire at 29 Woodbine Avenue off Dogwood Road. Units arrive to find active fire in one of the walls with wires down and burning outside. A working fire was transmitted bringing Setauket FD to the scene with an engine, ladder and an ambulance and the St. James Fire Department with a RIT. Crews made quick work of the fire, all searches were negative and all units cleared from the scene within an hour.  The Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals Office is handling the origin and cause investigation.

2046 hours. Stony Brook Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an activated fire alarm at Douglass College in the Tabler Quad at SUNY Stony Brook. Units arrived to find an active fire in at least one room on the ground level of the three story building. The working fire was transmitted and mutual aid was requested from the Setauket Fire Department for an engine and a truck, Centereach Fire Department for a truck, St. James Fire Department for their RIT on heavy rescue 4-3-9 and Port Jefferson VAC for a bus. Two lines were stretched and crews laid in from a hydrant that was close to 1000 feet away from the fire. Crews made quick work of the fire and the incident was placed under control within 30 minutes. There were no injuries were reported. 

1626 hours. Ronkonkoma, Farmingville and Nesconset Fire Departments are dispatched to a report of a structure fire on the grounds of the Cenacle off Portion Road and Smith Road in the Ronkonkoma Fire District. Ronkonkoma Assistant Chief Kevin Murray was first in and advised of a heavily involved single story 30X30 private dwelling. Chief Murray had the first due engine lay in and deploy their deck gun. Three 2 and one half inch lines and one inch and three quarter line were stretched and also operated, all from the exterior. Early on, the roof and part of the building collapsed and Chief Murray requested an excavator from the Town of Brookhaven to knock the remainder of the building down.  The main body of fire was knocked down by 1712 hours but units remained on scene until approximately 2000 hours. Ronkonkoma, Holbrook, Farmingville and Nesconset FDs operated at the scene. Centereach FD sent an engine to cover Ronkonkoma for the duration. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk Police Arson Detectives are handling the origin and cause investigation. There were no injuries,

0335 hours. The Commack Fire Department and Commack Ambulance were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Commack Road near the overpass to the Northern State Parkway. Units arrived to find a crash involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. Sadly, the driver of the car died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
