1748 hours. The Commack Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 269 Veterans Highway. Units arrived to find a brush fire that had extended to the vinyl exterior of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished and the area overhauled. A Fire Marshal from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety was called in to handle the origin and cause investigation.

House fire in Kings Park

The Kings Park Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Old Road off Old Northport Road at 1726 hours. Units arrived to find an active fire in the basement of a single story private dwelling. The working fire was transmitted bringing an engine from Commack FD, a RIT from Smithtown FD and an ambulance from Commack Ambulance to the scene. Crews stretched a line and quickly extinguished the fire, containing it to the area of origin. A Fire Marshal from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety was called in to handle the origin and cause. The East Northport Fire Department sent an engine and Northport FD sent an ambulance to cover for Kings Park for the duration of the incident. There were no injuries.

Commack Fire Department and Commack Ambulance were dispatched to numerous vehicle crashes during this morning's cold spell. Thankfully injuries were minor in both of the incidents pictured, which occurred on the parkway.
St. James FD handles vehicle crash

St. James FD responded to Route 25A & Acorn Road for a two car motor vehicle collision. Units arrived to find that both vehicles had left the roadway and were in the woods. St, James operated with an engine, their heavy rescue and an ambulance. The Stony Brook Fire Department also sent an ambulance as St. James second rig was already out on another call.
One subject was transported to Stony Brook University with minor injuries.

At 13:47 hours, the St. James FD was activated for a traffic collision at Lake Avenue and Moriches Road. Units arrived to find a crash involving two vehicles with a subject trapped in the back seat of one of the vehicles.
St. James FD operated with Rescue 9, Engine’s 1, 3, mutual aid ambulances from Stony Brook FD, Nissequogue FD and Nesconset FD. Three patients in total were transported to Stony Brook University with non life-threatening injuries.
The scene was under control at 2:11PM and all units were released shortly thereafter.
Motor vehicle crash with pin in Nesconset

Nesconset Fire Department responds to a motor vehicle collision in front of the Smith Haven Mall on Middle Country Road. Units arrive to find a crash involving two vehicles at Alexander Avenue and Middle Country Road. The driver of one vehicle could not be removed so the driver door was removed by the crew from Heavy Rescue 449. The driver was then extricated and transported to the hospital.

1640 hours. Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle crash on Meadow Road. Units arrived to find that that an SUV had left the roadway, striking a telephone pole at the entrance to the Accompsett Middle School. Suffolk Police were already on scene and had the roadway closed due to energized electrical wires burning on the ground behind the vehicle. The driver had self extricated and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. FD personnel stood by until PSEG arrived and cut power to the down lines. At that point Crews secured the vehicle, addressed spilled fluids on the roadway and then secured from the scene.

0702 hours. The Centereach Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire in the vicinity of Middle Country Road and Elliot Avenue in Lake Grove. Units arrived to find a heavily involved commercial building at 2611 Middle Country Road, one block east of Elliot. Due to the volume of fire, lack of exposures, no life hazard and the anticipated collapse of the building, the Chief ordered an exterior attack. A deck gun was immediately deployed on Centereach engine 2 and ladder 5 went into operation with both of their master streams when they arrived. Mutual aid was requested from the Nesconset Fire Department for their ladder and they went right into operation upon arrival. The Selden and Stony Brook Fire Departments both sent engines to the scene. A portable monitor was setup in the street and crews worked for over an hour to bring the fire under control. The Ronkonkoma Fire Department sent their ladder to the scene for relief and they operated as well.
The Lake Grove Fire Marshal was requested to the scene and upon arrival, determined that the location in within the Town of Brookhaven. Centereach FD dispatch was advised to contact Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals and Suffolk Police Arson. Those two agencies are handling the investigation.

At approximately 0125 hours, the Stony Brook Fire Department is dispatched on a 911 call reporting a house on fire at 1466 Stony Brook Road near Campus Lane. Units arrive to find smoke pushing from the 2nd floor of a two story private dwelling. Crews stretch in while mutual aid is requested from Setauket for an engine, Centereach for a ladder and the Saint James FD for a RIT. The fire, which was confined to one bedroom, was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries. Stony Brook University Ambulance sent a unit to the scene. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven are investigating the cause.
St. James FD makes quick work of house fire on Hobson Avenue

1316 hours. St. James Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Hobson Avenue. Chief of Department Edward Springer Jr. was the first in and after a quick size up determined that there was an active fire in the walls and floor between the basement and the ground level of a large two story private dwelling. Engine 4-3-3 was the first due engine. The crew stretched an 1 3/4 hand line through the front door and attacked the fire. Simultaneous to this, other FD personnel ventilated and searched the structure for victims. This quick attack confined the fire damage to a small section of the house. St. James Volunteer Fire Department operated with Chief of Department Edward Springer Jr, 3rd Assistant Chief Frank Sapienza, Engine’s 1, 3, Ladder 7, Rescue 9 and EMS Company 6. The Nesconset Fire Department sent Engine 4-4-1, and the Stony Brook Fire Department sent a Rapid Intervention Team. The Nissequogue Fire Department sent an engine to Saint James FD to cover the district for the duration of the incident.

Car slams into building in Smithtown

At approximately 0951 hours, the Smithtown Fire Department is called to respond to a motor vehicle crash on Route 111. Units arrive to find that the operator of a late model Hyundai, had driven into the side of a commercial building at 359 Route 111 resulting in moderate damage to the building and to the building. There were no injuries. A Fire Marshal from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety was called to the scene and in turn contacted the Town of Smithtown Building Department. All FD units cleared from the scene within 30 minutes.

House Fire on Brooksite Drive in Smithtown

2231 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department was activated for a reported house on fire at 222 Brooksite Drive. Suffolk Police were already on scene and reporting heavy fire in a private dwelling with at least one subject having jumped out an upper level window. Assistant Chief Patrick Diecidue was the first FD unit to arrive and he confirmed that he had a working fire. Dealing with bitter cold conditions, Smithtown personnel laid in from a hydrant, stretched hand lines and attacked the fire from the exterior. Mutual aid was requested from the Hauppauge, Nesconset and St. James Fire Deoartment's and Commack Volunteer ambulance to the scene, The Nissequogue Fire Department sent a unit to cover. The two occupants had escaped from the building prior to the arrival of the FD. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Due to the instability of the structure, FD crews could not safely enter the building. The Town of Smithtown Highway Department was called in to demolish the building, allowing the fire department to complete extinguishment. The fire was placed under control at approximately 0110 hours.
Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety and Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad are handling the investigation into the cause of the fire.
The Smithtown Fire Department was called back to the scene at approximately 0330 hours to extinguish hot spots within the remains of the structure.
Commercial building fire on Main Street in Kings Park

0421 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at 63 Main Street. Units arrived to find fire venting out of the front of the structure. Numerous large hand lines were stretched and mutual aid was requested from the Commack Fire Department for a ladder, Smithtown Fire Department to the scene and St. James FD to cover.

St. James and Nesconset Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 46 Hillside Avenue at 1739 hours (St. James District). The call was upgraded to a working fire at 1743 hours with units arriving to find heavy fire in the front portion of the house. Smithtown FD was requested for a truck and Stony Brook was requested for a RIT. With the temperature at roughly 10 degrees, crews stretched numerous lines and wen to work battling the fire in the single story dwelling. All visible fire was extinguished within 40 minutes. The Nissequogue FD sent an engine to cover for St. James for the duration and the Centereach FD sent an ambulance. There were no injuries. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are handling the investigation.
Hauppauge sends a RIT to Central Islip house fire at 10 South Road.

0335 hours. The Central Islip Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 10 South Road. Units arrived to find heavy fire venting out of a single story wood frame vacant dwelling. Crews made a quick push on the interior but due to the instability of the structure, crews were pulled out and an exterior attack was mounted. Mutual aid was requested from Hauppauge for a RIT, East Brentwood to cover and Islip Terrace to the scene. An excavator was brought in from the Town of Islip to demolish the building. Once that was done, the fire was fully extinguished.

1053 hours. Farmingville, Ronkonkoma and Holtsville FD's are dispatched to a report of a house fire at 12 Circle Court off Woodbury Road in Farmingville's district. Units arrive to find an active fire in the attic and through the roof of a single story private dwelling. Numerous lines are stretched and additional mutual aid is requested from Centereach and Medford to the scene as well as Selden and Coram FD's to cover. The fire is placed under control at approximately 1140 hours.

2310 hours. Centereach FD responds to a house fire on Tree Road. Arriving units found heavy fire venting out of the upper level of a two story private dwelling. Crews stretched lines into the house and mutual aid was requested from Setauket FD for a RIT and Selden FD for an engine. FD personnel operated on scene for 2 hours. Fire in being investigated by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals Office. There were no injuries.
