Centereach FD-House fire on Elliot Avenue in Lake Grove

The Centereach Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house on fire with occupants and animals trapped at 74 Elliot Avenue in Lake Grove. Units arrived to find smoke pushing from the upper level of a two story wood frame private dwelling. 2 lines were stretched, while crews removed a number of animals and one of the occupants from the house. The fire was quickly extinguished and fire was confined to the upper level. Overhaul was extensive and arduous due to hoarding conditions within the house. There were no injuries. Robert Corely, Chief of the Centereach Fire Department was the OIC. Mutual aid was provided at the scene from Stony Brook and Selden FDs. The Ronkonkoma FD sent an engine to cover at CFD.

Hauppauge goes to house fire in Central Islip

Central Islip FD was toned out for a house fire on Oakdale Avenue. Arriving units encountered heavy fire venting out of a two story vacant house.  Multiple hand lines were stretched and CI's tower went to work. Mutual aid was requested from multiple departments, including Hauppauge.

Ronkonkoma FD-House fire on Center Street

The Ronkonkoma, Nesconset and Farmingville Fire Departments were toned out for a reported house fire on Center Street in the Ronkonkoma Fire District. Units arrived and found heavy fire venting out of a single car garage attached to a two story private dwelling. Crews stretched and performed VES, finding that the fire had extended into the house. The fire was quickly knocked down and placed under control. Ronkonkoma FD's 30 was the OIC.

Smithtown FD-Fire on the roof of the Long Island Beauty School

0255 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department was called to respond to a report of smoke coming from a building on Route 111 at 347. Units arrived to find smoke pushing from the roof of the Long Island Beauty School.  Crews quickly located and extinguished a burning heating unit. Fire damage was isolated to the roof.

Hauppauge FD-MVC with heavy rescue on the LIE

2355 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department responds with CI/Hauppauge VAC to a report of a motor vehicle collision on the Long Island Expressway. Units arrived to find a multi-vehicle crash with multiple aided, including one with serious injuries. FD personnel went to work along with SCPD ESU, to extricate the victims.  East Brentwood FD sent an ambulance to the scene. A total of four subjects were transported, one victim via helicopter.

Fire damages bagel store in the Village of the Branch

The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Miller Place in the Village of the Branch. Units arrived to find an active fire in an enclosed plenum space between multiple ceilings and the roof of a strip mall housing a Japanese restaurant, a bagel store, a medical office and Starbucks. Crews stretched multiple lines and went to the roof via aerial and ground ladders. Mutual aid was requested from Nesconset FD for a ladder, Hauppauge for a ladder and Kings Park for an engine. The fire sprinklers were operating within the building and FD personnel opened up and extinguished the fire. Two firefighters were injured and transported to the hospital via ambulance.

Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are investigating the origin and cause of the fire with the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.

Ronkonkoma FD-Pedestrian seriously injured in hit and run on Portion Road

Ronkonkoma FD responds to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Portion Road near Patchogue Holbrook Road. Units arrive to find that a subject had been hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital via Ronkonkoma FD ambulance.

Ronkonkoma FD-Gasoline tanker burns on the Long Island Expressway Service Road

0415 hours. Ronkonkoma FD is dispatched to a reported vehicle fire burning on the North Service Road of the LIE. Assistant Chief Eric Cook is first out and is advised that the vehicle is in fact a gasoline tanker.  Chief Cook activates the pre-plan as a precaution as he arrives to find that the cab of the tanker is heavily involved. Mutual aid provided at the scene by the Holbrook and Nesconset Fire Departments.

St. James FD-Vehicles slams into house and burns

$ people were injured when a driver lost control the their vehicle, leaving the roadway and slamming into a house on Bayberry Drive. A responding Suffolk Police Officer removed one of the occupants from the vehicle. FD personnel from St. James, Nesconset and Stony Brook FD's responded.

Ronkonkoma FD-Multi vehicle crash on Patchogue-Holbrook Road injures 2

Ronkonkoma FD responds to a motor vehicle collision at Patchogue-Holbrook Road and Union Avenue in Holbrook. Units arrived to find a crash involving two vehicles. FD personnel extricated, packaged and transported the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital.

Commack FD-Vehicle crashes into Restaurant, vehicle and restaurant burn, driver dies

Alleged street racing resulted in a vehicle leaving the roadway and crashing into the Casa Luis Restaurant on Jericho Turnpike this morning. The vehicle and building both burned, along with the occupant of the vehicle. The restaurant owners were asleep in the apartment above the restaurant but were able to escape without injury. Commack FD was assisted at the scene by Hauppauge, Kings Park and Smithtown FD's. Damage to the building was heavy.

Kings Park FD-Man mowing lawn is struck and killed by motorist

Kings Park FD was dispatched to an MVC on Sunken Meadow Road. Units arrived to find that a man mowing a lawn on Sunken Meadow Road was struck by a motorist. Police and FD personnel performed CPR on the victim, who succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was charged with DWI.

Ronkonkoma FD-Car fire spreads to house in Lake Grove

Ronkonkoma FD is dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire on Fredrick Avenue. Units arrive to find a vintage Corvette burning in the driveway and extending to the house. The alarm was restransmitted as a structure fire, bringing Nesconset and Farmingville FD's to the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished. The vehicle was a total loss but the house sustained only moderate damage. The Lake Grove Fire Marshals Office is investigating.

Hauppauge FD-Crash with overturn and ejection on Motor Parkway

Hauppauge FD and CI-Hauppauge VAC were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Motor Parkway. Units arrive to find a collision between two vehicles, one of which had overturned. The occupants were on the ground and injured. A total of 4 subjects were transported.

Smithtown Fire Department-House fire on Steven Place

The Smithtown Fire Department was called to respond to a report of a house fire at 8 Steven Place. Arriving units encountered heavy fire venting out the attic of a large two-story colonial. Crews stretched lines on the fire and began their VES, while mutual aid was requested from the Hauppauge Fire Department for a RIT and from the Nesconset Fire Department for an engine to the scene.

The fire was quickly extinguished without incident or injury. Chief of Department Michael Landrigan was the OIC.

Hauppauge FD-Bus fire on the Long Island Expressway

1817 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department responds on a telephone alarm reporting a vehicle on fire on the Long Island Expressway. As this was a border call, the East Brentwood Fire Department was also dispatched. Units found a large coach bus burning on the west bound side of the LIE, just west of the exit 55 Motor Parkway overpass. At the time of the fire, there had been 52 persons on the bus. All of them exited safely and without injury.

Smithtown FD-Vehicle fire on Landing Avenue

The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of 341 Landing Avenue. Units arrived to find that a vehicle had left the roadway, striking a tree. A fire ensued, which destroyed the vehicle. The lone occupant self extricated and was transported via ambulance to the hospital.

Smithtown and Hauppauge respond to MVC with fire on Townline Road

1657 hours. While the Smithtown Fire Department was operating at a near drowning and a motor vehicle crash with a car fire, they were tapped out for a second crash and fire in front of 839 Townline Road. The Hauppauge Fire Department was dispatched to cover the call. Units arrived to find that a GMC Yukon had left the roadway, striking a tree on the north side of the street and catching fire. While FD units were en-route, two Hauppauge firefighters were flagged down and were able to extricate the unconscious driver. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Cudos to Hauppauge Firefighters Steve Matteo and Lieutenant Shaun Mooney for a job well done.

Hauppauge FD-Vehicle fire at Village Green shopping center

1125 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department is dispatched to a vehicle fire in the parking lot of the Village Green shopping center on Veterans Highway at Spartan Lane. Units arrive to find a heavily involved 2000 VW beetle. The operator stated that while driving, she noted smoke coming from under the hood so she pulled into the parking lot. Engines 1 and 4 handled the call. The vehicle was a total loss. There were no injuries.

Hauppauge FD responds to their 2nd working fire of the day

1437 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department is dispatched on a phone alarm through 911 with the caller reporting that a house was on fire at 73 Grissom Way. Crews arrived to find an active fire on both levels of a two story occupied private dwelling. Multiple lines were stretched and VES initiated. Hauppauge 2nd Assistant Chief Ron Walker operated with engines 1,3 and 4 as well as an engine from Smithtown FD and a FAST from the Nesconset Fire Department. Central Islip/Hauppauge Ambulance was on scene and the Central Islip Fire Department sent an engine to cover. Suffolk Police Arson Detectives are handling the investigation. There were no injuries.
