0839 hours. Hauppauge Fire Department responds to report of a vehicle on on Nicon Court at Rabro Drive. Units arrive to find a fully involved 2010 Toyota Prius hybrid that had just been parked in the street. The vehicle operator stated that she had parked the vehicle and went into work. She further stated that she came out to retrieve her glasses and noted fire in the steering column. Engines 3-8-4 and 13 operated at this incident under the command of Acting Assistant Chief Kenneth Furuno. The vehicle was a total loss. There were no injuries.

Fatal vehicle pedestrian on Concord Drive in Kings Park

0814 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department was requested to respond to Concord Drive in Fort Salonga in regard to a subject injured in a fall. On arrival, crews found a 79 year old female in cardiac arrest on the driveway, a result of being struck by a vehicle being operated by her husband. The victim, identified by police as Nancy Richard, was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Suffolk Police 4th Precinct Detectives state that the incident occurred as the victim returned home after walking her grandchild to the bus stop. Police say that Peter Richard, 83, was backing out of the driveway in a 2015 Mercedes S550 when he struck his wife. Peter Richard was not injured.
Peter Richard helped to transform P.C. Richard and Son, from a a local seller of household goods, appliances and bedding into a reigonal chain with 66 stores in four states. Peter Richard and his brother Gary, ran the business for several decades. Their father, A.J. Richard (who passed away in 2004) was the Chairman.
According to Newsday, in 2018, Peter and Nancy Richard donated $3.5 million to the Stony Brook University Children's hospital to help establish the Pediatric Emergency Department. This donation came 16 years after their granddaughter was seriously injured when she was thrown from a horse. She was treated and recovered at Stony Brook Hospital.
House fire on Kevin Drive Road in Commack

1833 hours. The Commack Fire Department is dispatched to a report of a house on fire at 14 Kevin Road. Units arrive to find an active fire in a utility closet on the 2nd floor with extension into the living area of a two story dwelling. Two lines were stretched in while crews ventilated and opened up. Thanks to the quick work of the FD. the fire was confined to the 2nd floor. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the East Northport Fire Department and the the Kings Park Fire Department. The Dix Hills Fire Department sent an engine to Commack FD headquarters to cover for the duration of the alarm. Commack Ambulance sent multiple units to the scene. There were no injuries.

Santa, Frosty, Rudolph and the elves are getting ready to visit all the good children of the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps District. Our annual Operation Frosty Parade is Saturday, December 14, 2019 and we will also be collecting toys & food to donate to local charities.
Gather your neighbors, friends and family together and sponsor a stop for Frosty, Santa and their friends to meet with you at your house. Please have a minimum of 15 children at your stop.

Commack FD/CVAC handle multiple wrecks during rain/snow/ice transition.

1428 hours. As the precipitation changed back and forth from rain to snow, Commack Fire Department and Commack ambulance were dispatched to a number of crashes. Thankfully all of the injuries were minor, although one vehicle traveling on the Sagtikos Parkway did roll over and leave the roadway. The operator of that vehicle self extricated and refused rescue.
Crash with overturn at Bettyanne Drive and Malin Ave in Setauket

1446 hours. The Setauket FIre Department is called to respond to a report of a traffic collision at Balin Avenue and Bettyanne Drive. Crews arrived to find a crash involving two vehicles, one of which was on its side. The occupants of both vehicles had self extricated and were transported to the hospital via ambulance.
House fire on Oak Lane in Fort Salonga

2109 hours. The Kings Park FIre Deparrtment responds to Oak Lane off Sunken Meadow Road for a reported chimney fire. Units arrive and confirm an active fire in the chimney, with extension to the attic of a large two story wood frame dwelling. Lines are stretched and mutual aid is requested from Smithtown FD for an engine to the scene, East Northport FD for a RIT, Greenlawn FD for a ladder to the scene, Commack FD for an engine to the scene. The St. James FD sent an engine to cover and Nesconset sent an ambulance to cover.. Two lines were stretched and operated. The fire was placed under control at 2143 hours. There were no injuries and all units were clear from the scene by 2245 hours. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are investigating.
Centereach FD deals with a house fire on Piedmont Court.

1914 hours. Centereach Fire Department is responds to 8 Piedmont Court in regard to a structure fire. Units arrive to find an active fire in a two story wood frame private dwelling. Two lines are stretched while crews searched for seat of the fire. The fire was extinguished without incident. Crews opened up to check for extension and ventilated the house. Mutual aid was provided by the Selden, Ronkonkoma and Farmingville FIre Departments. There were no injuries. Crews remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes. The Red Cross was contacted to assist with relocating the displaced occupants. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven are handling the investigation.

1358 hours. Commack Fire Department is activated to a report of a house fire at 68 Rensselaer Drive. Arriving units encountered a heavy fire condition in a single story wood frame dwelling. Crews stretched and operated four lines and were hampered by an active natural gas leak. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Dix Hills Fire Department. The Kings Park FIre Department sent a unit to cover and Commack Ambulance sent numerous units to the scene. The fire was placed under control at approximately 1445 hours. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are investigating.
Brush FIre on Stony Hill Path in Smithtown

0958 hours. Smithtown Fire Department responds to and extinguishes a brush fire on Stony Hill Path. Crews from Brush 4-2-8, Engines 14 & 15 as well as Rescue 9 accessed the fire from both the DDI property and a backyard of a residence. Members quickly extinguished the fire and were back in service within a half hour operating under the command of Chief Fitzpatrick.
Kings Park sends an engine to cover for East Northport during Thanksgiving house fire

1117 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department sent an engine to cover for the East Northport FIre Department while they battled a house fire in a two story private dwelling at 7 Fifth Avenue. Northport, Greenlawn and Dix Hills Fire Departments sent units to assist at the scene. Suffolk County Police Arson detectives are investigating. One occupant was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Laundromat fire on Smithtown Blvd in Nesconset

1014 hours. Nesconset, Ronkonkoma and St. James Fire Departments were dispatched to 292 Smithtown Blvd in Nesconset in regard to smoke coming from a laundromat. Assistant Chief AJ Anderson was first in advised that there was smoke showing. Units arrived shortly thereafter and extinguished active fire in two dryers. The building was vented and FD units were back in service with 45 minutes. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety are handling the investigation.
Late night house fire on Forest Road in Centereach

0217. Centereach FD is activated for a house fire in the vicinity of North Washington Ave and Forest Road. Responding units were able to see the fire from quite a distance away. Arriving units encountered heavy fire throughout the attic of a single story vacant private dwelling (18 Forest Road). Master streams were deployed to knock the fire down and mutual aid was requested from the Selden Fire Department, Ronkonkoma Fire Department and Farmingville Fire Department. Units pushed into the structure and the fire was extinguished within 90 minutes.
Driver arrested after crashing into Bolla Market in Hauppauge

0400 hours. Suffolk Police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle into a building at 90 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge. Units arrived to find that the driver of a Ford Escape had driven the vehicle through the front entrance, shattering the front doors. There were no injuries but due to the damage, the Smithtown Fire Marshals Office was requested. A Fire Marshal arrived to perform a life safety inspection and requested a response from the Town of Smithtown Building Department due to the damage. The operator of the vehicle was transported to the 4th Precinct.

0623 hours. Centereach Fire Department responds to a report of a structure fire in a strip mall at 821 Portion Road. Units arrive to find an active fire in a Vape store. Crews force entry and after a quick search, find and extinguish the fire. Mutual aid was provided at the scene from the Farmingville, Ronkonkoma and Selden Fire Departments. Suffolk Arson Detectives and Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals are investigating. There were no injuries.
