Crash with overturn and heavy rescue in Hauppauge

1035 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department and CIHVAC respond to a traffic collision at Veterans Highway and Motor Parkway. Units arrive to find a collision involving two vehicles, one of which was on its side. Crews stabilized and removed the driver from that vehicle while other FD personnel worked to cut the driver of the other vehicle out. Units 3-8-9,3-8-1,3-8-11,3-8-13,3-8-10 operated at the scene.

Multiple Crashes keep Commack busy.

On Sunday October 20th, Commack Ambulance handled two Motor Vehicle Accidents. The first was a reported vehicle into the woods on Crooked Hill Road in the vicinity of the Walmart. Upon the arrival of units they found that the operator of the vehicle was not injured and the scene was turned over to SCPD for further investigation.

Later in the afternoon CVAC responded to a report of an overturned vehicle on Old Commack Rd, units found a single vehicle on its roof, with two people self extricated from the vehicle with minor injuries. Both patients were taken to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

Working fire on Calvert Avenue in Lakeland

0356 hours. Lakeland Fire Department responds to a report of a house fire at 150 Calvert Avenue off Express Drive South. Suffolk PD is first on scene and advises of an active fire in a bedroom. Engine 3-13-3 arrives and confirms the fire, requesting Ronkonkoma and Bohemia to the scene. The fire was placed under control within 20 minutes. Suffolk Police Arson Detectives are investigating as a matter of routine.

Truck fire damages building in Kings Park

0647 hours. The Kings Park Fire Department is dispatched to Pelkowski Precast Corp at 294A Old Northport Road in regard to a vehicle fire. Crews arrive to find a Freightliner port-a-john tank truck burning near a building. The fire is extinguished without incident and the face of the building is opened up to check for extension. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety were called in to investigate. This was deemed an accidental fire. There were no injuries, the truck was a total loss. Th fire Department was back in service shortly after 9AM.

CVAC shares their skills with the community at Commack Day

A contingent of members of the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corp were on hand at Commack Day at Hoyt Farm Park. Members showed off their equipment, explained their mission, taught CPR and provided invaluable information to the community. While a number of members were at Commack Day, they also had a responder and ambulance at Commack High School for the football game today in case of any medical emergencies. The CVAC in house crews handled 13 alarms, 9 of which were during both the football game and Commack Day.

Great Job by CVAC! Dedication to their community at its finest.

Centereach and Ronkonkoma FD's send units to working fire on Portion Road in Farmingville

Farmingville Fire Department is dispatched to a house fire at 1042 Portion Road. Units arrive and advise of a working fire, bringing mutual aid from Centereach FD for an engine, Holtsville FD for an engine, Ronkonkoma FD for a truck, Selden FD for an engine and the Medford FD to cover. One dead in crash in front of 1140 Motor Parkway

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man in Central Islip today.
Christopher Alexandre was driving a 2001 Saturn westbound on Motor Parkway when his car collided with a 2019 Nissan traveling eastbound at approximately 8:15 a.m. Central Islip FD responds and cuts the victim out of the vehicle. 

Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance transports Alexandre, 32, of Central Islip, to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Nissan, Eliberto Martinez, 49, of Central Islip, was also transported to Southside Hospital by CI_Hauppauge Ambulance and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352

Commack sends an engine to Dix Hills House Fire on Capri Court.

1201 hours. Dix Hills Fire Department responds to a report of a house fire ay 16 Capri Court. Units arrive and confirm that they have an active fire in the building. While crews stretch in, mutual aid is requested from Deer Park for a RIT and Commack FD for an engine. The fire was placed under control at approximately 1230 hours.

Technical Rescue in Smithtown

1205 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a subject with a broken ankle at Blydenburgh Park. After locating the victim deep within the park, they were packaged and removed to a waiting ambulance. This was an extended operation as crews had to first reach the subject, package them and then walk them out of the park. While operating at this incident, a caller reported a dumpster fire on Redwood Lane. That fire was quickly extinguished without incident.

Hauppauge Fire Department former member Anthony Longbucco passes

Anthony Rocco Longbucco, 63, passed away September 27th, 2019 with his family by his side at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Anthony was born in Yonkers, NY and grew up in Hauppauge, NY with his father Anthony, his mother Ethel, and his sister Arlene. He has lived in Burdett, NY (Schuyler County) for the last 35 years.

Anthony worked for New York State as a public safety officer for Rockland Psychiatric Center, Willard Psychiatric Center, and Elmira Psychiatric Center. Anthony met his wife and soulmate Deborah, also a NYS Public Safety Officer, at training. The couple married on October 1st, 1983. Anthony is survived by his wife, their two daughters Anna (Corey) Stone and Veronica (Oscar) Mintegui, and his three grandsons Rocco Anthony, Oscar Luca, and Maxwell Francis. Anthony was also survived by his mother-in-law, Lilya Kohl-Bennett. 

Anthony proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter from the age of 16. He served as a member of the Hauppauge Fire Department before serving 35 years as a member of the Burdett Fire Department. Anthony also volunteered as an EMT for Schuyler Volunteer Ambulance Corp. He drove for Elmira Heights Fire Department and Greater Valley Ambulance.

Anthony was a dedicated father and husband. He was a selfless friend and is often remembered for his kindness in difficult situations. He proudly risked his life for strangers, running into danger as others ran away. Anthony was a warm hug and a loud laugh.

The family held a celebration of life on October 5th 2019, 2:00PM to 7:00PM with a brief memorial service at 3:00PM at the Burdett Fire Department. RIP Tony.

Kings Park FD sends a RIT to house fire on Twin Hills Court in Northport

1316 hours. The Nortport Fire Department responds to a structure fire at 602A Twin Hills Court in the Northport Fire District. Arriving units encounter an active fire on the ground floor. Mutual aid is requested from Kings Park for a RIT and East Northport for a ladder. The fire was quickly extinguished without incident. Centerport FD sent an engine to cover for Northport for the duration of the incident.

Car slams into house in St. James

2249 hours. The St. James Fire Department responds to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Third Avenue near Fourth Street. Units arrive to find that the adult male operator of a Ford Excursion lost control of his vehicle when backing out of his driveway and slamming into the house across the street. The vehicle operator refused rescue but an adult male that was in the house was transported via ambulance. Smithtown Fire Marshals and a Building Inspector were called to the scene to follow up.

Smithtown FD investigates gas leak at Cabo Fresh on Route 111

1005 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department responds to a report of a gas leak within Cabo Fresh at 81 Route 111 in the Village of the Branch. Units arrive and after a thorough investigation are unable to find a problem. National Grid is requested to follow up and all units secured from the scene within 40 minutes.

Smithtown Antique rigs on display at the Smithtown Historical Society Heritage Day

The Smithtown Fire Department proudly displayed their recently restored 1935 Mack Hook and Ladder at the annual Smithtown Historical Society Heritage Day Festival. The fire department was on hand with other apparatus and manpower, interacting with the community giving folks a chance to get to know who they are aand what they do. It was a picture perfect day as can be seen in these images.

Deck fire on Dedham Place in Kings Park

1529 hours. Kings Park Fire Department responds to a report of a house on fire at 14 Dedham Place off Enfield Lane. Units arrive to find the deck burning on a single family dwelling. The fire was quickly extinguished without incident. There were no injuries. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown are handling the investigation.

Fire at Yokohama Japanese Restaurant in Commack

0554 hours Commack Fire Department responds to an alarm at 3082 Jericho Turnpike. Units arrive to find a smoke condition in the building. Further investigation leads to a fire in the cook line duct work. The fire is quickly extinguished. Mutual aid provided by Greenlawn for a RIT, Dix Hills for an engine and East Northport for a ladder. The Kings Park Fire Department sent an engine to cover for the duration of the incident. There were no injuries.

Numerous 9-11 remembrances held on this 18th anniversary

On the 18th anniversary of 9-11, numerous memorial services were held in the area. Services were held at the Hauppauge Fire Department, the St. James Fire Department, Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Commack High School, Centereach Fire Department, Main Street Smithtown and at Responders Park in Nesconset. Hundreds of people attended the events.
